What is the Stripe alternative for Nepal?
नेपालको लागि स्ट्रिपको विकल्प के हो?
Trile is subscription-billing infrastructure for Nepal. Because no card-on-file rail exists here, the customer pre-funds a wallet and Trile deducts each cycle from that balance. Stripe lists 51 countries on stripe.com/global as of 27 August 2026, and Nepal is not one of them. The query hides two jobs: receiving foreign money, and billing Nepali customers in NPR. Trile only does the second.
विदेशबाट पैसा भित्र्याउने र नेपाली ग्राहकलाई हरेक महिना बिल गर्ने, यी दुई फरक काम हुन्। त्रिलेले दोस्रो काम मात्र गर्छ।
Which problem are you actually solving?
Two different businesses type "Stripe alternative Nepal" into a search box, and they need opposite tools. One wants money to enter Nepal: a client in Berlin owes you USD 2,000 and you need it in a Nepali account. The other wants money to move on a schedule inside Nepal: 400 subscribers owe you NPR 499 every month and you are chasing them by hand.
Trile answers the second one and not the first. It has no cross-border leg, and it will not turn USD into your bank account. If you came here for inbound foreign currency, the next section points you at what does that, and you can stop reading after it.
One thing to know before you weigh Trile against anything else on this page. Trile is in beta and runs in sandbox mode platform-wide. You can integrate and test end to end today. No real money moves until Trile completes Nepal Rastra Bank verification. Read the rest of this page as a comparison of models, and check the current status of anything here before you commit to it.
Is Stripe available in Nepal?
No. The country list on stripe.com/global named 51 countries and regions when we fetched it on 27 August 2026, and Nepal was not one of them. The page is explicit about scope: "Stripe is currently supported in the following countries/regions, with more to come."
Two of the 51 carry a "Preview" badge, India and Indonesia. No other South Asian country appears in any state. Nepal is not listed as supported, not in preview, and not on a published waitlist. For a business outside the list, the page offers one path, and it is a money-management path rather than a payments one: "Use Stripe Treasury with stablecoins to manage your money globally."
So a company registered in Nepal cannot open a Stripe account and charge its own customers. That single fact is what generates the whole search query, and it is also why the answers on this SERP disagree with each other: they are answering two different follow-up questions.
How do you receive international payments in Nepal?
Through Khalti and Stripe together, or through a merchant of record. Trile does none of this, so treat the rest of this section as a signpost rather than a pitch.
Khalti runs an inbound service built on Stripe, announced on its own blog on 20 April 2026. You open the Stripe entry inside Khalti, enter the sender's country, currency, amount and purpose plus your own PAN number and occupation, and share the link by email or WhatsApp. The sender pays by card, wallet or international bank account. Khalti's post says the funds "are automatically converted to NPR at competitive exchange rates" in your wallet. It is one-directional and request-by-request. The post never mentions recurring charges or subscriptions, and we should not read any into it.
If you sell software to customers worldwide, a merchant of record is the other shape. Paddle's help centre states that it "works with software businesses anywhere in the world with the exception of the unsupported countries listed below," and Nepal is not on that 28-country list. The merchant of record becomes the seller of record, handles tax, and pays you out. You are then billing in USD, to global customers, which is a different business from billing Kathmandu in rupees.
Two other routes get named often and we could not verify either from a primary page today. Payoneer's country pages returned 403 and 404 to us on 27 August 2026, so we make no claim about its Nepal status; check it yourself. Incorporating in one of the 51 countries Stripe does list, usually the United States, is a real and legal route, but it is a tax and residency decision before it is a payments one and it is outside what we can responsibly advise here.
What does Stripe Billing do that has no Nepal equivalent?
Stripe Billing's whole model rests on a stored card that can be charged off-session. Its own product page lists "Subscriptions," "Usage-based billing," "Invoicing," "Smart Retries," "Dunning," "Revenue recovery," and a "Self-serve customer portal." Strip out the stored credential and roughly half of that list loses its meaning: Smart Retries retries a declined authorisation, and dunning is a sequence triggered by that decline.
Nepal has no card-on-file rail to strip out in the first place. Be careful with the stronger version of that claim, because it is false: NCHL's own page for the Retail Payment Switch says NEPALPAY Request "supports recurring e-Mandate payments for a specified frequency and time period" and that e-Mandates "can be used for recurring service payments as an option for AutoPay or AutoDebit." That runs through member banks and licensed PSPs rather than a self-serve merchant API, which is a different constraint from the thing not existing. The whole question is worked through on the auto-debit page.
| Stripe Billing capability | What it depends on | Nepal, today |
|---|---|---|
| Charge a saved card each cycle | A stored card credential, charged off-session | No such rail. Trile deducts from a Trile-held wallet the customer pre-funded, not from their eSewa or Khalti balance. |
| Smart Retries | An authorisation that can be retried after a decline | A wallet deduction does not decline, it comes up short. The subscription goes past_due. |
| Dunning | A failed-payment signal to trigger the sequence | Trile fires invoice.payment_failed, holds the invoice open, and recovers on the next top-up. |
| Self-serve customer portal | Hosted account pages tied to the card on file | Trile's hosted checkout runs phone OTP, wallet top-up, KYC, then subscribe. |
| Usage-based billing | Metered events priced at cycle close | Trile does not publish a metered-usage product. Prices are an amount and an interval. |

Does Chargebee or another billing platform cover Nepal?
Not today. Chargebee is a billing layer that sits on top of a payment gateway, so its Nepal answer is decided by whether a Nepali gateway is on its list. On 27 August 2026 we loaded chargebee.com/payment-gateways, which offers a country filter. Nepal is not in that dropdown. "NPR" does not appear on the page. Neither does eSewa, Khalti, Fonepay, ConnectIPS, IME Pay, or NCHL. India resolves to two gateways, Stripe and Razorpay.
The same reasoning disposes of Recurly, Zuora, and the rest of that category in one move. They are all gateway-dependent, and none of them has a Nepali gateway to depend on. A billing platform without a rail underneath it is a spreadsheet with an API.
What actually bills Nepali customers in NPR every month?
Trile is subscription-billing infrastructure for Nepal. Because no card-on-file rail exists here, the customer pre-funds a wallet and Trile deducts each cycle from that balance. The renewal is a movement inside Trile's own ledger, not a fresh payment attempt against a bank, which is why it needs no mandate rail and cannot be declined.
Concretely: the customer tops up through eSewa, Khalti, IME Pay, or a bank transfer. Every amount is integer paisa serialised as a string, so NPR 499.00 is stored as 49900, never as a float. On the renewal date the billing engine draws an invoice against the wallet. If the balance covers it, the invoice is paid. If it does not, the subscription moves to past_due, which is a normal recoverable state, and it clears on the next top-up. The full lifecycle is on recurring payments in Nepal, and the object model and idempotency rules are on the subscription billing API.
The cost of this design falls on your customer, and you should price that in before you choose it. The balance Trile deducts from is a Trile-held wallet, not the customer's own eSewa or Khalti balance. They have to move money across first, and they have to keep enough in it. A reminder-and-link model asks them for a tap each month instead. Neither is free. Pick the one your customers will actually tolerate.
ग्राहकले पहिले वालेटमा पैसा राख्छन्, त्यसपछि हरेक चक्रमा त्यही ब्यालेन्सबाट कटौती हुन्छ।
How does this compare with SUQO and APINepal?
They solve adjacent jobs and it is worth being accurate about which. SUQO is a subscription management platform for Nepal, and its collection model is a reminder followed by a payment link: reminders go out by SMS before the renewal date, each one carries a link, and the customer taps it and pays through eSewa or Khalti. SUQO states on its own page that "Auto-debit isn't available in Nepal yet." They are right about the thing a merchant can wire up on its own: nothing lets you pull from a customer's eSewa or Khalti balance on a schedule. A person acts every cycle in that model, which is the trade you are making.
APINepal describes itself as "one payment API for eSewa, Khalti & Fonepay", with "hosted checkout, payment links and signed webhooks, with money settling into your own accounts". That is a collection layer rather than a billing engine, and if you need to take a one-off NPR payment cleanly it is the shape you want.
Trile's difference is narrow and specific: the money is already inside the ledger before the renewal date, so the renewal is a deduction rather than a request. That is worth more to you when a missed renewal costs you real revenue, and worth less when you have 20 subscribers and a person can chase them.
Which tool fits which job?
Match the row to what you are actually trying to do. Six of the seven rows point somewhere other than Trile, which is the honest shape of this market in August 2026.
| What you are trying to do | What fits | Trile? | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Get paid by an overseas client, in NPR, into a Nepali account | A Khalti payment request link, settled through Stripe and converted to NPR | No | One request at a time. Not a subscription. |
| Sell software to customers worldwide and hand off tax | A merchant of record such as Paddle. Nepal is not on its unsupported list. | No | You bill in USD to global customers, not in NPR to Nepal. |
| Run a real Stripe account with Stripe Billing | An entity in one of the 51 countries stripe.com/global lists. Nepal is not one. | No | A tax and residency decision before it is a payments one. |
| Take a single online NPR payment from a Nepali customer | eSewa, Khalti, Fonepay or ConnectIPS directly, or one API over them such as APINepal | No | Collection only. Nothing schedules the next charge. |
| Collect renewals by nudging customers to pay each cycle | SUQO, whose model is an SMS reminder plus a payment link | No | A person acts every cycle, and some of them will not. |
| Debit a customer's own bank account on a standing instruction | NEPALPAY e-Mandate, through a member bank or a licensed PSP | No | Not a self-serve merchant API. You go through an institution. |
| Charge a Nepali customer NPR 499 every month with nobody acting | A pre-funded wallet the billing engine deducts from. This is what Trile is. | Yes | Trile is in beta and runs in sandbox mode platform-wide. You can integrate and test end to end today. No real money moves until Trile completes Nepal Rastra Bank verification. The balance is a Trile-held wallet, so the customer has to fund it first. |
Availability for Stripe, Chargebee and Paddle read from each vendor's own live page on 27 August 2026. Payoneer's country pages did not resolve for us, so it is not listed. No fees are quoted here because Trile has none published, and a half-filled price column is worse than no price column.
One more filter, since it decides the answer faster than any feature list: are your customers in Nepal or outside it? Customers outside Nepal means job 1 and Trile is the wrong tool. Customers inside Nepal, paying the same amount on a cycle, means job 2. Rail-level detail for the two wallets people ask about most is on eSewa recurring payments and Khalti recurring payments.
Why do the search results for "Stripe Nepal" contradict each other?
Because the page that answers job 1 and the page that answers job 2 both rank for the same phrase, and neither says which one it is answering. A freelancer reading a domestic billing page concludes Nepal has no answer. A SaaS founder reading a freelancer payout page concludes Khalti and Stripe solved recurring billing, which they did not; Khalti's announcement never mentions subscriptions.
There is a long-running r/Nepal thread, "Any Stripe alternatives that work for businesses in Nepal?", that ranks on this query. Reddit served us a login wall on 27 August 2026 and we could not read it, so we will not characterise what is in it. It is linked here for you to judge, with the note that a years-old forum thread is a poor source for a vendor's current country list. For that, read the vendor's own page, which is what we did for every availability claim above.
Common questions
Does Stripe work in Nepal?
के स्ट्रिप नेपालमा चल्छ?
No. On 27 August 2026 the country list at stripe.com/global names 51 countries and regions, and Nepal is not among them. India and Indonesia carry a "Preview" badge; no other South Asian country appears at all. A business registered in Nepal cannot open a Stripe account to charge its own customers.
Can I use Stripe Billing to charge Nepali customers in NPR?
No, on two counts. Stripe Billing needs a Stripe account, and Nepal is not on the stripe.com/global country list. It also charges a stored card off-session each cycle, and Nepal has no card-on-file rail for that. Recurring NPR billing here runs off a pre-funded wallet balance instead.
Does Chargebee support Nepal?
The Chargebee gateway page at chargebee.com/payment-gateways lets you filter by country. On 27 August 2026 Nepal is not in that dropdown, NPR is not mentioned, and no Nepali rail appears in the gateway list: no eSewa, no Khalti, no Fonepay, no ConnectIPS. Chargebee is a billing layer over a gateway, and it has no Nepali gateway to sit on.
What is the best way to receive international payments in Nepal?
Khalti and Stripe run a service for exactly this. You generate a payment request link, share it with the sender abroad, they pay by card or wallet, and the funds convert to NPR in your Khalti wallet. Selling software worldwide is a different shape again, and a merchant of record such as Paddle covers that. Trile does neither.
Is Trile a Stripe alternative?
Only for one of the two jobs people mean. Trile covers what Stripe Billing does for NPR subscriptions: the customer pre-funds a wallet and Trile deducts each cycle from that balance. It does not replace Stripe for receiving foreign currency. Trile is in beta and runs in sandbox mode platform-wide. You can integrate and test end to end today. No real money moves until Trile completes Nepal Rastra Bank verification.

The Trile team built the wallet ledger and the recurring billing engine that this page describes, against eSewa, Khalti, IME Pay, and bank top-ups. For the comparison below we fetched stripe.com/global, chargebee.com/payment-gateways, Khalti's own announcement of the Stripe service, Paddle's supported-countries page, and suqo.ai on 27 August 2026, and recorded what each one said rather than working from memory. Where a source did not resolve, the page says so instead of guessing.
